The second edition of SOULIES UNDERGROUND is on THURSDAY 5th APRIL 2012. From 7-10pm at THE VENUE. (Doors open at 630, for 7pm start)
Entry: $5 donation to help Tadhg raise money for an Underground Bible College Students in Vietnam.
At SOULIES UNDERGROUND we want to do two things:
1) HUNGER for the Word
2) PRAY for the world
It’s really quite a simple night. We’re going to dig into God’s Word, pray for the persecuted church, sing and eat. To help get you in the underground, secret church mood make sure you SMUGGLE IN YOUR BIBLE + WEAR A HOODIE/HAT. That’s one small way to be BOUND WITH THEM.
MESSIAH: GOD’S GIFT
At SOULIES UNDERGROUND we will be considering Jesus. It’s the night before Good Friday. And so we will be considering how Jesus is the MESSIAH. The Messiah was God’s special promised King in the Old Testament. As we meet Jesus, we meet the MESSIAH. The MESSIAH is God’s gift to us. In the lead up to UNDERGROUND2 pray that this week God would prepare you to be confronted once again with the good news of Jesus coming into our world.
Here are some readings + questions that might help you prepare.
Day 1 // MESSIAH: THE PROMISE
Look at the following passages from the Old Testament. What do they teach us about what the coming King (Messiah) will be like?

Day 2 // MESSIAH: THE EXECUTION
Read Mark 15. What do we learn about the events surround Jesus’ execution?
How does this make you feel?
Pray.
Day 3 // MESSIAH: THE BLOOD
What do the following bible verses teach us about what Jesus’ blood has done for us?
Day 4 // MESSIAH: THE TRIUMPH
Soulies Underground is on this Thursday night. Spend time praying for it now.
After the execution of Jesus and his blood was shed, he rose again!! Praise God!
What do we learn about Jesus’ victory?
(optional – read all of 1 Corinthians 15. What do we learn about the resurrection?)
PRAY.
“Right now, around the world, millions of Christ-followers are meeting in secret places, worshipping in hiding, practicing their faith behind closed doors. If exposed, they face prison, torture, even death. Yet their devotion to God and His Word are unwavering, even heroic. They are our brothers and sisters in Christ. We must learn to take our God as seriously as they do.” (sc)
Soulies were recently visited by Thirteen Three and encouraged to be BOUND WITH our persecuted brothers and sisters around the world. It was encouraging to hear of the perseverance of our Christian family who are suffering for their faith in Jesus.
It would be easy to simply feel pity for them, and then move on. But the reality is that “WE NEED THE PERSECUTED CHURCH MORE THAN THEY NEED US.”
In Sydney, the vast majority of Christians are able to live in relative safety and probably won’t be killed for our faith. We have Christian book shops where we have access to dozens of English translations of the Bible.
When life is comfortable. It is easy to get complacent.
For some 200 million Christians around the world simply going to church or gathering with other Christians to read the Bible is a life-threatening exercise. Yet, even under constant danger, these Christians will do whatever they can to read the Bible and meet with other Christians.
In many of these places Church has to be done in secret.
SOULIES UNDERGROUND is an opportunity to learn from the persecuted church by being HUNGRY for the Word of God. And also to PRAY for the persecuted church around the World.
